I had just such a house finch at my feeders all of last year and most of the
summer.
Curiously, and I'm interested in input from the experts among you, I've had
nobody at my feeders for about the past month except a faithful pair of
cardinals who dine morning and evening. In past winters, I've had flocks of
goldfinches and house finches, titmice, chickadees, juncos, mourning doves,
the usual suburban backyard population. I haven't changed the type of food I
offer and it's all fresh, the water in the bird bath is clean and wet, there
are no cats around to speak of. The only thing I can think of is that
there's a hawk around, but I haven't seen it. Any thoughts on why all the
birds have left me lonely?
