Greetings,
At 5:30 a.m., I pulled off of Fleetwood Dr. near the bridge over Cedar Run
and as soon as I got out of my car, I heard two Great Horned Owls, then two
Barred Owls, then two E. Screech Owls. No tapes were used. I just stood in
one place and turned my head about to hear the different owls. A first for
me!
While checking out the mud flats off of Fleetwood Drive, I found a small
flock of American Pipits (8). Aren't they a bit late? Several hundred Rusty
Blackbirds foraged nearby.
While driving along Flory Dr., off of Parkgate, I spotted a largish white
bird in the tree and of course, whipped the car over to check it out. It
turned out to be a partially albinistic (or is that leucosistic?) Red-tailed
Hawk, sitting next to a *normal* Red-tail. The head was pale/tan, tail
feathers were pale red, primary tips a light brown, and the upper parts were
whitish with pale brown scapulars. Two years ago I caught a glimpse of a pale
raptor here, so I wonder if this is the same bird?
