VICTORY FOR THE ARCTIC REFUGE!
After months of intense pressure from BioGems Defenders and millions of other
activists, 29 Republican moderates forced the House of Representatives to
drop its plan to allow oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as
part of the budget bill. The November 9 decision was a stunning setback for the
Bush administration, congressional leaders and the oil lobby, who have pushed
relentlessly for refuge drilling -- putting polar bears, caribou, Arctic wolves
and other wildlife at risk. We will keep you posted on this ongoing fight. If
Senate and House leaders succeed in bringing Arctic drilling back to the
floor for a vote as part of the final budget bill, we will need your urgent
action
once again to help save the refuge.
