This morning, despite the drizzle and wind and between wiping my glasses,
binocs, and scope, I managed to track down 40 species :
Canada Goose; Wood Duck; Am. Bl. Duck; Mallard; N. Pintail; Gr.-W. Teal;
R.-necked Duck; L. Scaup; Bufflehead; H. Merganser; Ruddy Duck; Bald Eagle; N.
Harrier; R.-shouldered Hawk; R.-tailed Hawk; Ring-billed, Herring, & Gr.
Bl.-backed Gulls; Belted Kingfisher; R.-bellied & Downy Woodpeckers; N.
Flicker; Bl. Jay; Amer. & Fish Crows; Ca. Chickadee; Br. Creeper; Ca. Wren;
Gold.-Cr. Kinglet;
E. Bluebird; Hermit Thrush; N. Mockingbird; Amer. Tree, Field, Song, Swamp, &
Wh.-throated Sparrows; N. Cardinal; and R.-winged Blackbird.
The highlight of the morning was watching a group of Cardinals, Bluebirds, and
Song Sparrows feeding on a cranberry bush [?] loaded with bright red berries
near the end of Easy Rd., while the Hermit Thrush sat there seemingly oblivious
to the feeding frenzy around him. A blast of color in an otherwise drab and
colorless scene!
