I was also at Occoquan Bay NWR this morning, and can add a few more species to
Phil's list. Waterfowl numbers were way down on the Occoquan river and
savannah sparrow numbers were way down from last Thursday, so I assume the
weather has moved some birds out. Highlights were two small flocks of tundra
swans, a male yellowthroat, an American pipit, winter wren, 8 sparrow species
(eastern towhee, song, swamp, savannah, field, fox, white throated, dark-eyed
junco), 1 Forster's tern, and a mixed group of gadwall, black ducks, mallard,
and wood duck along the wildlife drive.
