This morning at Occoquan Bay NWF, in Prince William County off of Dawson
Beach Road, I met Mark Moran and his Dad and we birded for a few hours. The
highlight was a RUSTY BLACKBIRD near Deephole Road at the point that juts
out into the bay a bit. There were lots of EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, thanks to
Kevin Parker, who monitors the bluebird boxes as a member of the Virginia
Bluebird Society. I understand that Kevin had a great season with
Prothonotary Warblers this year, and I noticed a couple of his boxes that he
makes and places just for the warblers. I am looking forward to this spring
when they return. I was disappointed not to find much in the way of
waterfowl, but there were 15 HOODED MERGANSERS, and a PIED-BILLED GREBE.
