All,
Four of us went on the second "Sunday Morning Bird Walk" on 4/17, this time at
Dameron Marsh NAP in lower Northumberland County. The weather was perfect.
Birds of note were three MUTE SWAN, five BALD EAGLE and a flock of 23
BONAPARTE'S GULL resting on and around some pilings just inside Ingram Bay,
including several individuals in nearly complete breeding plumage. There were
also a number of HORNED GREBES, some still in winter plumage, some nearing full
breeding regalia. We heard but did not see two COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, and many
FIELD SPARROWS. FORSTER'S TERNS worked the lagoons to seaward and at least
seven OSPREY flew overhead. A WILD TURKEY walked across the entrance road and a
SNOWY EGRET gave everyone good looks at its bright yellow feet as it perched
conspicuosly in the top of a bare tree.
On the way back home I heard my first OVENBIRD and saw my first INDIGO BUNTING
of the year.
