Virginia Birders,
The Northern Lapwing continues to be seen this afternoon along Graceham
Road, Creagerstown, Maryland. I arrived there at 1:45 p.m. to find eight or
so birders with happy smiles on their faces and the Lapwing in their scopes.
For me, roadside birding at its best. The Lapwing was in its customary
field, foraging desultorily near the fence on the left side of the field as
you
face it from the road. After a while the bird flew away from the road, still
in that field and still fairly close to that fenceline.
A favor, please, to the homeowners whose driveway is on the other side
of that fenceline and who have been friendly to us birders. Do not turn your
car around in their driveway. Whenever a car does that, their parrot goes
nuts, that sets off their dogs, and they must endure the cacophony for quite
awhile until the animals settle down.
The Lapwing is a great bird. Go for it.
