Hello, birders.
During my Bald Eagle survey at Mason Neck SP in
Fairfax County tonight, my survey partner and I
observed a female NORTHERN HARRIER over the woods
around Kane's Creek at about 7pm. She was pretty high
up. We watched her for less than a minute before she
disappeared. We were surveying in an area that is
closed to the public. Perhaps the harrier came from
the nearby Great Marsh, just a few miles away?
Today was the last day of regular volunteer eagle
surveys at Mason Neck. Thanks esp. to Paul van Rijn,
coordinator of the surveys for so many years.
