I'm no expert, but my non-birding cousin is having the same problem with a
woodpecker on his gutter in Mount Vernon. I did some surfing yesterday and
found that the Cornell Ornithology Lab is doing research on this subject. Go
to their website: www.birds.cornell.edu and scroll down to the woodpecker
links. You might find some answers/direction there.
