It was quite a day in our backyard on Sunday.
We had a Rose-breasted Grosbeak (only the second time we've seen one in
our yard) We also had a Tennessee Warbler, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and
the following "regulars"
American Goldfinch
Blue Jay
Carolina Chickadee
Carolina Wren
Downy Woodpecker
House Finch
House Sparrow
Mourning Dove
Northern Cardinal
Song Sparrow
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
White-throated Sparrow (first of the fall for our yard)
Red-bellied Woodpecker
And other wildlife included Squirrels, Chipmunks, and an Eastern
Cottontail (the same bunny has been coming to our yard this year since
it was a very small)
This is a pretty good showing for a suburban backyard.
I managed to get a few photos of some of the birds. If you like you can
check them out in the New Pictures section of my web gallery:

After a fun morning watching the birds in our backyard, my wife and I
headed over to Meadowlark Gardens (Vienna, Virginia). I didn't list
everything we saw there, but it was a beautiful day for a walk, and a
few of our highlights were Eastern Phoebe, Cedar Waxwing, Ruby-crowned
Kinglet, Red-shouldered Hawk, Turkey Vulture, Black Vulture,
Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Red-eyed Vireo, Black-throated
Green Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, and lots of "regulars".
