A total of 9 persons, including co-leaders Paul Mocko & myself, braved
sultry conditions at Occoquan Bay Nat'l Wildlife Refuge, at Woodbridge, VA,
for the scheduled bird walk sponsored by the Northern Virginia Bird Club. A
total of 45 species were seen. Most notable were two flocks of Bobolinks,
totalling about 37 birds. The start of the fall migration season was also
marked by two Black & White Warblers & an Am. Redstart. A lingering Least
Bittern put in a brief appearance. A pair of cooperative Yellow-billed
Cuckoos provided good looks for everyone.
Start: 8:00 am; Finish 11:00 am. Route: Lake Road to Deephole Pt. Road to Easy Road to Bayview Road to culvert, then back on Bayview to parking lot.
Butterfly species included Cloudless Sulfur & Black Swt., as well as many Tiger Swt., Common Buckeye & Monarch.
