The Northern Virginia Bird Club trip to Riverbend Park, Great Falls (Fairfax
County) on Saturday May 6 attracted 16 participants. We covered the park
for the Fairfax County Count and worked hard for 60 species.
Highlights were PURPLE MARTIN (pair gathering nesting material for the
Martin house near the boat ramp), Mom WOOD DUCK with five young, the
pleasing song of WOOD THRUSH throughout the wooded areas of the park, HOODED
WARBLER, PROTHONOTARY WARBLER, CANADA WARBLER, OVENBIRD, SCARLET TANAGER and
BALTIMORE and ORCHARD ORIOLE.
