VA Birders,
20 people came out for the Northern Virginia Bird Club walk at Blandy Farm
today. It was a fabulous day to be out birding and we had a nice variety of
birds to make the day even more enjoyable. Highlights included an LA
Waterthrush, a Rusty Blackbird, a Vesper Sparrow seen flying away, Brown
Thrashers and a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker that entertained us while we were
compiling the list. We also saw a Red-headed Woodpecker along the public road
that makes up part of the Driving Loop. In addition to the Vesper, we had some
other nice sparrow sightings including singing Fox and White-crowned Sparrows.
I heard a Chickadee singing like a Black-capped, but I did not see the bird.
Does anyone know if a hybrid would sing a Back-capped song, or is it more
likely the bird was actually a BC Chickadee? Thanks to Joanna Taylor and Scott
Baron for co-leading with me, since I was somewhat handicapped by a case of
laryngitis.
