VA Birders,
The Northern Virginia Bird Club (_www.NVABC.org_ (http://www.NVABC.org) )
trip to Leesylvania State Park brought out 11 birders today. The wind made it
fairly chilly at time, but we managed to see 33 species despite a shortage of
waterfowl. The land birds were more of a highlight as we got excellent views
of Brown Creepers, Eastern Bluebirds, a Hairy Woodpecker and most of the
regulars. After the trip, I drove over and found the Ross's Goose on Parkgate
Road hanging out with its Canada Goose pals. I also took a picture of a
female American Kestrel hovering over a field. She was flapping her wings
rapidly while facing into the wind which resulted in no forward progress. She
did
this several times, so maybe she was doing it so that she could look for
