After a very chilly start, we had a good day's banding at Occoquan today.
We banded 14
YELLOW PALM WARBLERS, which was just a fraction of the number flitting
around the banding
station. Other birds banded included: RC KINGLET, BROWN CREEPER,
YELLOW-RUMPED WARLBER,
E. TOWHEE, SONG, FIELD, and SWAMP SPARROWS, NO. CARDINAL, BROWN-HEADED
COWBIRD. We saw,
but did not catch a NORTHERN PARULA, PINE WARBLERS and a couple of BLUE-GRAY
GNATCATCHERS.
In addtion to the usual suspects, there were several YELLOW LEGS (I never
had time to get
my glasses on them, but I am pretty sure they were greater), one drake
RED-BREASTED MERGANSER,
several GREEN-WINGED TEAL and a mess of WOOD DUCKS in the creek by the
banding station.
