Va Birders,
Apparently I have a lot to learn about the etiquette of asking for information
on va-bird.
I should have asked for responses to my own email address as I usually do.
Unlike some people, I do not use recordings to find birds. I am almost always
by myself when I go chasing birds, and I fail to see what possible stress I
could be subjecting this bird to (or any other bird) under these conditions.
I will probably get blasted again for that remark. I, am, after all, in a
learning stage. But I don't think I am totally insensitive to the needs of
birds as some of you seem to think.
Do those of you who consider yourselves experts never go out looking for owls
or other birds who might be stressed by your presence?
Have you always found birds you wanted to see without the help of anyone else?
I think I know the answers to these questions.
In the one year that I have been receiving postings from va-bird, I have read
some very uncharitable responses to postings by others. I consider some of the
responses I have received to my posting on the Screech Owl to be in this
category.
It would be nice, in my opinion, if more tolerance could be shown for those of
us whose knowledge of birds and all matters pertaining to birding are not at
the level of many of you. We are, after all, trying to learn.
I appreciate the postings of advanced birders. I also appreciate civility, and
would like to see more of displayed on va-bird postings.
