The herald of "stable" spring is back, as of this morning: the Northern
Rough-winged Swallows that nest on the south side of Cape Charles harbor (in
the
old drain holes for the former ferry terminal) were chasing each other and
displaying along Mason Avenue this morning, giving that grating but pleasant
song
that says warm-enough weather is here to stay. For such a plain bird, they
have plenty of personality, and I do like the warmth they bring with them.
