Since we're handing out opinions here, *you're* the one who should shut up.
I happen to love Lori's posts... they're always a lot more intersting than
simple lists of birds and they capture -- maybe more than anyone else's --
the reasons I love birding.
I'm an admitted novice at this, and I certianly don't have anywhere near the
life-lists that everyone else here does. But I think that puts me closer to
the basics of why this is an enjoyable hobby for so many people. I'm still
fascinated every time I see pretty much anything. I don't need to see some
rarity to feel as if it's been a good day. And, from Lori's posts, I think
she feels the same way. I hope most of the people on this board haven't lost
that child-like, wide-eyed fascination.
So Lori, you just keep on singin' and I'll keep on readin'. Be as fun and
descriptive and exuberant as you want. Don't worry about your basher here...
I'll bet he's in the vast minority.
And to C. Jones, all I can say is that if you don't like 'em, don't read
'em. I recommend you either loosen up or set up a filter in your email to
delete her messages. Problem solved.

Since you're a self-proclaimed "novice" (which is unimportant, but interesting
nonetheless), you might not know the original purpose for which this Listserv
was intended.
It's very simple.
WHEN and WHERE are the birds that either pass through or breed in this state
being seen.
At some point (especially for a 'novice') information such as this comes in
quite handy when trying to find a reliable spot or time period to see a
sought-after species- and having to weed through numerous useless posts becomes
not only tedious, but downright annoying. Bird behavior does come into play.
Seasonal activities come into play. But hearing that a Brown Thrasher moved
from one tree to the next is not exactly a wealth of usable info from any
angle, regardless of the fact you that you now know his name is Mr. B.
If you disagree with me, then only start looking for your life thrasher in
Redbuds- and I guess calling him by name wouldn't hurt either...
