In desperate anticipation of Spring, I stopped by Monticello Park (Beverly
Dr., Alexandria, VA) on my way to work this morning at 8:45am, and stayed
for a half hour. This park is the best little birdy park, even in the
chilly early Spring! The number of birds was quite high, even if the
species count was expectantly low. Tree-clinging birds made an especially
nice showing. A brief list of the highlights follows:
Winter Wren (up close and personal)
Golden Crowned Kinglets (several)
Brown Creeper
Nuthatch
Pileated Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Towhees
WT Sparrows
Carolina Wrens
Cardinals galore
2 Coopers Hawks
