1) Which brings more birds to a suburban yard--a mister or a dripper?
(2) How much water does each system use?
The unit I have has both a mister and a dripper feature. It also has a
water flow regulating valve. According to the instructions, a unit will use
between one and three gallons per day depending on how the regulating valve is
set.
I find that smaller birds go for the mister--certainly, warblers,
hummingbirds, and Red-eyed Vireos seem to enjoy the mister, but most bathe
using the
water on the leaves of the bushes below it, whether from the dripper or the
mister. Larger birds prefer the bird pools.
Of course the simplest way is to puncture a large plastic jug, fill it with
water, and then suspend it above a bird bath. The drip sound usually works

Hope this helps.
