We birded extreme NW Frederick Co. today, which is actually just as FAR NORTH
in VA as you can possibly get.
Along a remote gravel road, we found a single BROAD-WINGED HAWK - it was
hunting from a tree, right above the road, and gave us good looks for 10
minutes or more.
Earlier, BJ mentioned that she'd like to hear a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH sometime
today. Not 20 seconds later, you guessed it! - and not just 1, but 2!
Also earlier, our first YELLOW WARBLER for the year - yard bird. Most
surprising new yard bird was a Wood Thrush that was still singing at dusk from
a tiny, wooded draw nearby.
Lastly, as BJ was watching a pair of GNATCATCHERS, SHE found the nest they were
building - very near completion - I guess I've trained her well! :-)
In addition, we had a Great butterfly day = GREAT DAY altogether!
