VA-Birders,
I got out to Sparrow Alley at Manassas battlefield park this morning
and saw two juvenile Northern Harriers with their orange bodies and
white rumps gliding low over the fields and one perching in a small tree
close to the other. Lots of Field, Savannah and White-Throated Sparrows;
two Fox Sparrows, and a flock of about fifty Dark Eyed Juncos.
At the New York Monuments I found two Winter Wrens foraging on fallen
trees, and a Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker in pine tree next to the parking
lot.
I then stopped by Upper Occoquan Sewage Authority on Compton Road near
route 28, and found 9 Hooded Mergansers and 6 Killdeer, among some 200
Canada Geese.
A big Thank You to Laura Catterton for emailing me very precise
directions to Sparrow Alley the New York Monuments. These are great
spots to go birding and I would be delighted to pass on the directions
to who are interested. The Northern Harrier and Savannah Sparrow were
lifers for me!!!
