Day before yesterday, (May-25) at around 7:45 pm, I
noticed a duck fly overhead and land somewhere in
front, in a shopping complex (Fairfax Circle Plaza,
Fairfax ). It had landed in a parking lot in the
shopping complex. Curiosity getting the better of me,
I walked towards the direction I saw it landing.
On getting closer, I saw it drinking water from a
little puddle (it had rained the previous night),
right in the centre of the road.
I identified it to be a female MALLARD.
A few cars passed by and had a tough time passing it,
since it was not perturbed enough by the cars to fly
off from the middle of the road. This behaviour seemed
strange to me.
Would like to know from fellow birders if it is common
to see such a happening?
It had recently rained and there were puddles
everywhere. But this lady chose a little road in a
busy shopping complex to quench its thirst. strange?
