I had an Eastern Wood Pewee singing on the edge of the wetlands out back
this morning. They were here last year when we moved here and stayed fairly
late into Sept. They were great evening singers. My wife put half an orange
on the suet nail this morning and there is a Magnolia warbler with bright
crisp full spring plumage
pigging out on it today. We also had a spotted sandpiper on the lake in the
front this morning. I thought this weather change that came through last nite
would make the birds disappear until the wind dropped, but they have been
very active longer into the morning than usual. The white throated sparrows
are really decked out in spring plumage as well. There is one under the
feeder next to a towhee that has yellow lores that are so full they look
puffy and swolen and actually meet each other on the top of its skull. Ahh
cheap thrills!
