My wife & I were at Mogart's Beach Rd. and entrance to Ft Boykins, sited
Magnificent Frigatebird, 20 May 2002, 4 PM. Identified as Male because
black body, and long, pointed tail (I had seen in Fla.). Also, long,
pointed, boomerang wings. Flew directly overhead, over trees to James
River, heading for Idle Fleet, towards Hog Island. Location, Isle of
Wight. We traveled thru Smithfield, Business Rt. 10, past meat packing
co,. and turned right onto rt. 673 then right onto rt. 674, Ft Boykins
is at end of road. Great place to bird. Also flock of Cedar Waxwings(at
Mulberry Tree), Am Redstart, Black Poll warbler, Cardinals, Bluebirds,
Swainson Thrush, Wood Thrush, Pewee, Indigo Buntings and Blue Grosbeaks
were in area.
