VA Birders,
First, I'd like to thank Larry Meade for posting the report on our NVBC
Chincoteague Weekend, May 12-14, as I did not return home until late Monday.
Sunday afternoon, May 14, Marcy Fruchter and I headed down the Eastern Shore
and spent the night at the Sunset Beach (which is no longer a Best Western).
About 4:30 pm, we found 4 BLACK-NECKED STILTS at the Ramp Road pond at Eastern
Shore of VA NWR. We also checked the pond on Monday morning, May 15, but we
did not see the stilts again. Then we headed south across the CBBT. At the
overlook a short distance from the toll booth, we saw a good number of BROWN
PELICANS. Our next stop was Island #1, where we saw at least 12 PURPLE
SANDPIPERS (most in breeding plumage) and a COMMON TERN.
Good birding,
Val Kitchens
