I got fogged out this morning at Algonkian Park, so I headed over to Loudoun
County Parkway in search of massive numbers of shorebirds, especially rare
ones, in the numerous puddles along the road. I saw one Spotted Sandpiper
bobbing across the parkway.
Meanwhile, some nice passerines were around:
Blue Grosbeak - just south of the one-lane bridge
Willow Flycatcher - ditto
Grasshopper Sparrows - a few started singing once the fog lifted
Redstarts, Blackpolls, Prairies and Common Yellowthroats
Meadowlarks
The last bird I saw, and my favorite for the day, was a beautiful Lincoln's
Sparrow on Smith Switch Rd about 1/4 mile from the parkway.
