On Sunday, March 21st, I birded Burke Lake (Fairfax Co.), Neabsco Creek (Pr.
William Co.), and Hunting Creek (Alexandria). Best birds were 2 Long-tailed
Ducks at Burke Lake, seen from the marina. Other waterbirds at Burke were:
Horned Grebe 6
Pied-billed Grebe 2
Double-crested Cormorant 6
Lesser Scaup 3
Bufflehead 6
Hooded Merganser 2
Common Merganser 3
Red-breasted Merganser 1
Other notables were a dozen Bonapartes Gulls at Neabsco Creek, a Barn
Swallow at Neabsco marina, and a Lesser Black-backed Gull on the Hunting
Creek mudflats.
