VA Birders,
Our tree-service man, whose dad is a birder, told us about seeing a "white
redtailed hawk" this week in the Catharpin/Manassas area:
The bird had the characteristic rufous tail, but the body was completely
white save for some flecks of color, as he described it. He later emailed me
these
directions. The road is one he typically uses as a "short-cut." If Bonnie and
Charley allow looking for it, care should be taken not to block the narrow
road or encroach on private property. He spotted the hawk when it flew directly
across the road.
Directions, per the tree guy:
Traveling Route 50 West, shortly after Gum Springs Road make a left onto
Goshen Road.
Make a right onto Braddock Road.
Make a left onto Lightridge Farm Road. Lightridge turns into Saunders Lane.
Make a right onto Sudley Road.
Make a left onto Catharpin Road.
Bird was sighted at the intersection of Catharpin and Artimus roads.
