From the dock that sticks out into the icy
Potomac this morning I saw 14 bald eagles, 280
common mergansers, 10 red-breasted mergansers, 4
green-winged teal, 90 black duck, 20 mallards, 4
buffleheads, and 2 great blue herons.

Also stopped at Julia Metz to try for the
clay-colored sparrow and Harris's sparrow.  It
was windier there than at Leesylvania and most of
the sparrows stayed in the thickets.  I missed
both of these birds for the 4th time.

All the best
Fred
