VA-birders,
Persistent northeast winds, temps in the 40s, and cloudy skies didn't
make for an ideal April birding day, but a small group from the
Northern Virginia Bird Club led by Bob Klarquist and me found a few
good birds at Leesylvania State Park this morning. The piers and
pilings at the boat launch area hosted gulls and terns, the highlight
being two ROYAL TERNS, at least one of them banded. Seven CASPIANS were
present as well. Two YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS and two NORTHERN PARULAS
were the only warblers found, but a flock of about a dozen
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS moving together, some of them singing, were a
treat to encounter on the Lee's Woods trail, along with at least 4
BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS. One CHIMNEY SWIFT was spotted overhead. A photo
