My wife and I took a trip down to Leesylvania State Park in northern Prince
William County this afternoon. Most of the birding was accomplished along
Bushy Point Trail. There were two large concentrations of waterfowl, one
located near the main marina dominated by Canvasbacks and one past the
railroad bridge dominated by Gadwalls.
Apparently the Canvasbacks have been there most of the winter, but I thought
I'd pass the information along anyway. There were smaller numbers of several
species associated with both flocks.
Gadwall- 320
American Wigeon - 3
American Black Duck - 10
Mallard - 50
Northern Pintail - 20
Canvasback - 400
Bufflehead - 2
Lesser Scaup - 18
Ruddy Duck - 28
No passerines of note to report. Couldn't even find a goldfinch. Marc
Ribaudo had the neat stuff at Occoquan though.
