Inspired by the reports of YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS, I swung by Leesylvania
State Park this morning and was not disappointed. I totaled 5 (3 seen, 2
heard) at various points in the park, with the best views obtained of 2 near
the Visitor's Center, as reported by Paula Sullivan earlier this week. The
park was quite birdy.other notables included 2 NORTHERN PARULAs also near
the Visitor's Center.
Then it was off to Julie Metz, where I missed the King Rail but can add a
PALM WARBLER to what was previously reported this morning.
Final stop was Occoquan NWR where it seemed that every time I turned around
I ran into a singing Field Sparrow. Highlights to add to this morning's
report log include a large flock of PALM WARBLERS, the first EASTERN
KINGBIRD I've encountered this spring, and great looks of a Great Horned Owl
flushed unwittingly by me but quickly refound with the help of a mob of
crows.
