[va-bird] Late hummingbirds

Hey folks
There are at least a half dozen late October records for Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds in Virginia including at least 3, presumably of migrants in
November, 1 2-11 November 1974 at Williamsburg, 1, 12 November 1956 at
Lexington, and 1 18 November 1972 in Virginia Beach (and my records are by
no means complete). At least two have wintered in Norfolk. So I guess you
can be recording hummingbirds for a few days to come. Regards, RBC

Previously, the LO date in my yard was September 19, a couple of years ago.
In a typical year, I cease to see any hummers by the second week of
September, although others within just a few miles (Ffx Co.) continue to see
them into October. Perhaps, the urban environment of Arlington contributes
to the early departures.
However, this morning, what appeared to be an immature male noisily let his
presence be known. Going only to the flowers that are abundant while
ignoring all the feeders (which I can't bring myself to take down just yet),
he buzzed me beneath the porch within a foot or two of my face. I can't
guarantee it was a male, though he did have a noticeable dark patch on his
throat.
October 2, by far, is the latest sighting in my yard.
Simultaneously, a Magnolia warbler appeared out of nowhere, just a few feet
away, which I've never had in my yard before.
