Howdy all,
The last two days have been rather slow at the station but that has been
expected based on the southerly warm wind. We have only managed to catch 17
total
birds for the two days, and nothing unexpected. Migrant numbers are very low
but still present. Most of the migrants today were quite fat so I think they
are just waiting on the next north winds to push off. I too am waiting for the
next front. If the rains are good to us here, there was a bit of north winds in
the forecast, so I am a bit hopeful. We need the rain, but I hope it starts
after noon and ends before we open each day!
The next few days look to be quite iffy. Guess it all depends when and if we
get rain and then what Ernesto does.
This evening I had a flock of 127 EASTERN KINGBIRDS fly over the house
heading south at a pretty high altitude. They might be jumping the bay tonight.
We'll see how many are around tomorrow.
Totals for 8/28:
Prairie Warbler 1
American Redstart 1
Field Sparrow 1
Eastern Kingbird 1
Yellow-billed Cuckoo 1
TOTAL ------------------- 5
Totals for 8/29:
Prairie Warbler 1
American Redstart 3
Common Yellowthroat 2
Least Flycatcher 1
Traill's Flycatcher 2
Carolina Wren 1
Northern Mockingbird 2
TOTAL ---------------------- 12
Sure hope the next few days shakes things up around here. A break in the
weather pattern would be nice. Not to mention getting more birds.
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
