Howdy all,
Another slow day at the banding station. Only banded 18 today and some of
that was thanks to a state park tractor that flushed four FIELD SPARROWS into a
net mid-morning. The day started off dead. Only one bird on the first two net
runs. At this point I was shooting for just getting five birds for the morning.
Bird activity picked up a bit between 8:45 and 10:15. Then totally turned
off. I sure would like to see another cold front come through.
On another note, I heard a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO on the ESVNWR yesterday
evening. I have at least five different RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS coming to my
feeders outside the house. And still dozens and dozens of EASTERN KINGBIRDS
around. Talked to a refuge biologist here last night and she has had a WARBLING
VIREO near her house for about a week.
Here are the totals for the day 8/23:
American Redstart 2
Black-&-white Warbler 1
Yellow Warbler 1
Northern Waterthrush 1
Ovenbird 1
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Traill's Flycatcher 3
Field Sparrow 4
Carolina Wren 1
Northern Mockingbird 2
Yellow-billed Cuckoo 1
TOTAL ---------------------- 18
Cheers,
