Howdy all,

Today was a bit windier than I was really hoping for. Nonetheless, we managed
to catch 142 birds today composed of 23 species. A few of the nice birds
banded today include SCARLET TANAGER, SAVANNAH SPARROW, BLACKPOLL, and
GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH. Although I was hoping for more birds (mainly because we
had enough
volunteers to run 400-500 birds today). It just was not meant to be today.
Maybe tomorrow!

As a side note, it was a huge day for the hawkcount! Hopefully those totals
will be posted today or tomorrow. Huge number of SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS today.

Anyway, back to the cooler birds.
Here are the totals for the day 10/9:

American Redstart                    8
Northern Parula                         4
Magnolia Warbler                      1
Yellow-rumped Warbler             17
Blackpoll Warbler                      2
Common Yellowthroat                6
Black-throated Blue Warbler       10
Yellow Palm Warbler                  1           first of this subspecies for
the season
Ovenbird                                    2
Golden-crowned Kinglet              4
Ruby-crowned Kinglet                 2
House Wren                              4
Swamp Sparrow                         3
Savannah Sparrow                      1          first of the season
White-throated Sparrow               1          first of the season
Indigo Bunting                             1
Gray-cheeked Thrush                  4
Swainson's Thrush                      6
Scarlet Tanager                           1
Gray Catbird                               61
Northern Cardinal                         1
Blue Jay                                      1
Sharp-shinned Hawk                     1
TOTAL ------------------------------------ 142

I am hopefully that the winds are light at some point in the next month! I am
tired of all the wind and would love to have a nice calm day to have all the
nets open and catching birds. Sure hope it comes soon!

Cheers,
Jethro Runco
