Howdy all,
Well the last two days have been like night and day. Yesterday we only banded
35 birds but we made up for it today. We banded a total of 371 birds, and it
could have been more but we were a little short on help. We closed the nets at
10:30 to control capture rates. We reopened them at 1pm for another hour and a
half. Although we had nothing too great, we did add THREE new birds for the
season! Also the number of goldfinches in the area is quite large. Anyway, it
was a good day, just quite busy.
Hope it holds out for a few more days!
Totals for 10/31:
Winter Wren                   1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet     1
House Wren                    1

Totals for 11/1:
Golden-crowned Kinglet      17
Ruby-crowned Kinglet          8
Winter Wren                       2
American Goldfinch           120         that's a big number!
Yellow-rumped                  131         that's a little better
Field Sparrow                     6
Chipping Sparrow               5
Slate-colored Junco            2

Song Sparrow                    31

Yellow Palm Warbler          1          where are the palms? not many here
Blue-headed Vireo               1
Brown-headed Cowbird        1         new species for the season #103

Hermit Thrush                     8
Tufted Titmouse                  1
Gray Catbird                       1
Northern Cardinal                1
Red-winged Blackbird          1        new species for the season #105!!
Brown Thrasher                   1
American Robin                   4
Yellow-billed Cuckoo            1        kind of neat later bird
TOTAL  --------------------------  371

Well we were greedy hoping to get to 105 species. Now that we got that, what's
the new goal?? Dare we go to 110?? Who knows! We still have three more weeks of
banding. It's been a very good season here. I am looking forward to the next
few weeks.
Cheers,
Jethro
