Hola Birders,
There was a flight of 127 raptors today not including Vultures. The flight was
made up of mostly American Kestrels and some high-flying Ospreys. There was
also a great Passerine flight early in the morning. Two Eagles were observed
showing migratory behavior (a juvenile and a Basic 4). All this seem to be
fuel by our first day of consistent Northeasterly winds. Here's the numbers:
Osprey: 25
Bald Eagle: 2
Northern Harrier: 9
Sharp-Shinned Hawk: 1
Cooper's Hawk: 7
Broad-Winged Hawk: 10
Red-Tailed Hawk: 2
American Kestrel: 70
Un-ID Accipiter: 1
Winds are scheduled to continued from the Northeast for the next two days we
hope to keep numbers up. So pack a luck and head out to the platform.
Also of note was the first capture for our raptor banding program. A
Hatch-year female Cooper's Hawk was roped in by CVWO's very own Zach Smith.
