Hola Birders,
The Eastern Shore is certainly hopping right now! Mountain Bluebird,
Black-chinned Hummer, Cave Swallows and whatever you come out and find
tomorrow. However, the hawkwatch just isn't performing on par. This morning's
weather (heavy fog) really shut us down. The flight got a late start and
inevitably didn't produce too much. Don't let me discourage you though.
Tomorrow is gonna be sick!
Recent flights have produced only a few Redtails. They are out there and
mostly on the ridges. Kiptopeke generally gets a little bit of a late hit on
Buteos. So maybe tomorrow will be huge! Yesterday produced a nice late Osprey
that cruzed right over all of us. Today wasn't much, but boy were those
Sharpies having a ball. They were going every direction but, well, I dunno.
Here's today's breakdown:
BLVU: 2
TUVU: 36
NOHA: 3
SSHA: 19
COHA: 3
RTHA: 4
MERL: 1
Total: 68
Please checkout www.hawkcount.org for more detailed count info for K.S.P and
your other local Hawkwatch sites.
Other birds:
Common Redpolls have been heard from the platform and from the nearby banding
station. Tons of Cave Swallows are around right now. In the early afternoon
today I estimated that we had 40 CASW in the nearby field. It was hard to find
Tree Swallows in with them.
Good day and good birding.
-Sam
