Despite careful searching and intense pishing and
squeaking at a private wildlife refuge along the
Pamunkey River (Elsing Green) I was unable to
find many warblers or thrushes in the woods and
thickets on Saturday from 10:45AM to 1:30 PM.
However indigo buntings and blue grosbeaks were
more abundant than I have ever seen. Indigo
Buntings were flying up from the grassy
corn-field edges in flocks of 10-35. The tide
was high when I was there so no shorebirds were
visible on the river. I also couldn't find any
shorebirds on nearby sod farms. Here are the
totals.
