Last night around 11pm when the snow was really coming down heavy , I ventured
out to brush off the cars and get a bit of fresh air. Well when I opened the
door a killdeer was sitting down on the only spot on sidewalk that wasn't
covered in snow . Before I walked out I watched the poor fellow for a bit . I
flushed him when I did open the door he flew to the road and landed in a tire
track. After I got done brushing cars off I went back inside and wondered what
would happen to that killdeer . Anyway I looked out on the sidewalk around
230am and noticed he had returned . I was glad he found shelter thru the night
on that one spot that had no snow . He was gone when I went outside at 6am so I
hope he made it.
Today I took a brief drive along Shore drive from Virginia beach to Ocean view
area I looked at the bay whenever I could , not many places to pull over . High
lights were small rafts of scoters close to shore . I counted 35 White winged
scoter which I thought was a good number for area I covered.
On Lake Smith I found a male Black Scoter , 65 Hooded Merganser , 12 Northern
Shoveler , 17 Pied Billed Grebe and 7 Great Egret
