Howdy all,
What a start to a very nice and cool day! On the first net run of the morning
we were treated to a rare visitor to our nets. A very beautiful hatching year
male Kentucky Warbler!! This individual was only the second to be banded at the
Kiptopeke banding station since 1994! The last one was in 2000. So what a
treat! On the next run, we had not one but two Chestnut-sided Warblers in the
nets! Another not so common capture with only an average of five per season. So
the day started off great, but all good things must come to an end. The winds
picked up and we had to close half of the station and then a deer ran through
one of the remaining nets making quite the mess of a good net. Bummer there.
But the six hours of net repair is worth a Kentucky Warbler!
We banded 24 today which is six better than yesterdays 18.
Heres the birds banded the last two days.

I am glad to see and feel the cool air here finally! The past few days have
been very nice at the park and the birds have been good. Also glad to see the
numbers are going up! Come on fall!!
