After an abysmal morning health wise, I managed to get the kids and myself up
and running for a trip along the Plantation Route in Charles City and Prince
George for the late afternoon. The kids were restless, and it just seemed like
a good idea to get them out of the house!
We tallied a bunch of good stuff along the way, including 8 Bald Eagles, 3
Northern Harriers, 1 Kestrel, 58 Tundra Swans, 1,000's of Canada Geese, a
single Ring-necked Duck, 20+ Ruddy Ducks, 1,000's of Ring-billed Gulls, 9
Red-tailed Hawks, Song Sparrows, Red-winged Blackbirds, 1 Mockingbird, 100's of
Mourning Doves, 2 Meadowlarks, Carolina Wrens, Cardinals, American Crows,
Turkey Vultures, 2 Common Loons, Mallards, a few Red Head Ducks, several GBH,
White-throated Sparrows, Swamp Sparrows, Pileated and Downy Woodpeckers,
Greater Black-backed Gulls, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chickadee, American
Robin, Eastern Bluebirds, Starlings, and a few Flickers.
The highlights of the day were the abundance of Bald Eagles, the three Northern
Harriers, the Tundra Swans both on the ground and most overhead, and the
1,000's of Canada Geese in a single field.
Good trip, and the kids were diggin' the abundance and diversity.
I'll make that trip again, and soon!!
