It greatly saddens me to tell you that Jack Hugus passed away on the 19th on
one of his many bird trips.  Jack was on his way home from successfully finding
his 726th ABA Area bird, a Himalayan Snowcock, in Elko, Nevada.

Visitation is scheduled from 7 to 9 pm tomorrow night, Tuesday, September 23 at
the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, VA 20175.  The
funeral, at the same location, will occur at 11 am on Wednesday.

Jack helped start the Central Loudoun Christmas Bird Count and, with his wife
Kathleen, hosted its first two Tally Rallies.  He was delighted when Loudoun
County made Banshee Reeks a nature preserve and was instrumental in creating
the Friends of the Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve.  He led bird walks for the
Northern Virginia Bird Club, the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and the Friends
of Banshee Reeks.

Jack will be sorely missed by his many friends in the birding community.

His wife, Kathleen, has requested that gifts in his memory be made to the
Friends of Banshee Reeks, 21085 The Woods Road, Leesburg, VA 20175.  These
funds will be used to build an observation tower at Banshee Reeks in Jack's
memory.  An observation tower was something Jack always wanted for Banshee.
