All,
I ran into Ken Hollinga at the Prince William County landfill this
morning and we spent about an hour and half sorting through the gulls
together. The highlight was a first winter Iceland Gull seen well by
both of us. It was sitting on the ground to the left of the dumping
area, an area we had both searched extensively for an hour when it
showed up. At times it was nicely situated next to both Herring and
Great Black-backed Gulls making for an excellent size comparison. Also
seen were the other more usual species including Ring-billed, Laughing,
Herring, Lesser Black-backed, and Great Black-backed Gulls.
