Hi
I was birding on Jamestown Island and at Jamestown Settlement where my husband
works yesterday.
Besides the usual suspects -
Orchard Orioles - female and two males - one a first year
Magnolia Warbler - I'm pretty sure. This is a new one for me and I didn't see
it well - but it definitely had a "necklace" and it had white in its tail.
Both our blue-colored finches
First year male Summer Tanager
Red-headed Woodpeckers - although they are part of the "usual suspects" on
JT Island
Great-crested Flycatchers - everywhere!
One of the most beautiful Great Blue Herons I've ever seen!
And lastly - the black and white warblers - not capitalized. I think they are
actually Blackpolls because of their behavior. They were leaf gleaning in a
very acrobatic way. I would appreciate a confirmation of my guess. I put them
(3 birds) down as B&Ws, but then looking in the field guide later began to
second guess myself. I have a new book - "Birder's Handbook" ?? - and it
describes the feeding methods of these two warblers quite differently.
