I led the annual Friends of Huntley Meadows Park Birds and Bagels walk this
morning. About 10 intrepid souls braved the weather and really earned their
bagels. Best birds were at least two cliff swallows (mixed in a large group
of barns, with a smattering of trees, rough-wings, and chimney swifts low
over the water), and a dunlin in alternate plumage. Other birds of interest:
12 least sandpipers
1 solitary
2 barred owls (calling)
2 hooded merg (nice scope view of a female)
2 hummers
1 northern H20thrush
1 Canada warbler
1 redstart
1 magnolia
numerous yellow-rumps, blackpolls, and yellowthroats
and the usual suspects
Did anyone show up for the Dyke Marsh walk in the rain?
