It will be very important for project opponents to submit "letters to =
the editor" to these newspapers. You can be sure that wind project =
proponents will.=20

There are wind energy advocacy groups and PR outfits working on behalf =
of the developer, Highland New Wind. One firm, Bracewell & (Rudy) =
Giuliani, has been sending out press releases. This company also works =
for the wind energy developers, Florida Power and Light, owner of the =
infamous Altamont project in CA, and owner of the Mountaineer project in =
WV (2000-4000 bats killed in the first year of operation, 33 mostly =
neotropical birds killed in a single night; see www.vawind.org for =
specifics and more info on wildlife impacts).

Also, be aware that a group calling itself the Chesapeake Climate Action =
Committee, is holding a public meeting in Richmond on May 24th for the =
apparent purpose of promoting a Renewable Portfolio Standard in =
Virginia, which will effectively require industrial-scale wind =
development. The meeting will be held at the Richmond Unitarian =
Universalist Church (1000 Blanton Avenue; =
http://www.richmonduu.org/direct.htm). =20

Please forward this letter to other concerned members of the birding =
community who aren't on the recipient list.

Thank you -- Rick Webb, Monterey, Virginia
